The charity provides much needed support to children, young people and their families after the death of someone close to them.

Edward Dent died aged seven years. Through the pain and grief of their loss his parents, Peter and Hilary Dent decided to try and help other families. Edward’s Trust was set up in 1989 to fulfil that very personal mission

Edward’s Trust offers more than bereavement counselling to the individuals and families we support. Counselling is an important part of our work – all the staff have counselling qualifications and we are an organizational member of the British Association for Counselling. We are ‘Person Centred’ and believe that this is fundamental to our work.

They offer:

- Support and counselling for anyone affected by the death of a child aged 18 or under (however the death has occurred)

- Support and counselling to any parent affected by the death of their own child (whatever the age of their child)

- Support and counselling for children aged 4 – 18 years who are bereaved of a sibling, parent or significant carer

Andrew Radley, Chief Executive of Inksmoor Credit Management plans to raise some much needed funds for the charity in November of this year and has agreed to take part in a Skydive at 10,000 feet along with Colleagues.

Edwards Trust was chosen after the charity Noah’s Ark went into compulsory liquidation due to the lack of funding it received. Edwards Trust kindly took on some of their clients to ensure a continual service was received by all.

Should you wish to donate to Edwards Trust, please visit http://www.edwardstrust.org.uk/ where you will find various ways to donate to a very worthwhile cause.

Businesses are being reminded that new rules obliging them to file their returns for VAT and PAYE via the internet come into force this year.

Businesses are being reminded that new rules obliging them to file their returns for VAT and PAYE via the internet come into force this year.

From 1 April 2010, businesses with an annual turnover of £100,000 or more (excluding VAT) and all businesses which are registering for VAT for the first time, regardless of their turnover, will have to file their returns and pay any tax due online, or they could face a fine, calculated as a percentage of the tax owed.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has updated its online service for VAT ahead of the changes, which it claims will make it easier for new users to register and enrol for the service, and to file returns online. Users will also be able to register for email alerts to remind them when their next VAT return is due.

An online VAT account can be set up at any time, but must be done in time to file the first VAT return online. Businesses that already deal with their VAT through HMRC’s online service can continue to use their existing login details, although they may notice some changes to the pages they use.

Small businesses must also submit their Employer Annual Returns electronically this year. All firms with five or more employees need to file their details online by May 19 (firms with more than 50 employees have had to do so since 2006) or face a penalty, calculated as a percentage of the amount paid late, with higher penalties for consistently late payers.

Businesses with less than five employees will be given another year to fall in line, while there is also an exception for religious groups whose beliefs are incompatible with electronic communications.

The rise was announced in last year’s budget, as one of a number of measures to tackle the national debt, but business groups – led by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) – have argued this will discourage new recruitment just at the time when unemployment is hopefully beginning to fall.

Other groups which have added their names to the list of opponents include the British Retail Consortium (BRC), Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Forum of Private Business (FPB), Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Institute of Directors (IOD), and the Recruitment Employment Confederation (REC).

The groups urged the government to work with them to find alternative measures to reduce the budget deficit, including spending cuts.
